RC Makati sweeps major awards, adjudged Most Outstanding Club-Overall at District Awards Night
We've done it again! Our Rotary Club of Makati reaped a bumper harvest of honors, including the highest and most prestigious of all: the Most Outstanding Club Overall Award, besting 75 other Clubs in the district. The event took place at the District Awards Night held at this very same place, the Rigodon Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila, last Friday, the 1st of June. If the RC Makati members who were there in the flesh — Pres. Conrad Marty, PDG Tony Quila, PP Jonny Carlos, PP Sid Garcia, PP Ric Librea, IPP Sonny Tambunting, PE Pepito Bengzon, Treas. Felix Amparo, Sec. Jun-Jun Dayrit and Peter Coyiuto — stood proud, they sure had every reason to. You would, too, if you were there and Get a load of the awards we won:
Most Outstanding Club-Overall Most Outstanding Club in Club Service Most Outstanding Club in Community Service Most Outstanding Club in Vocational Service Most Outstanding Club in International Service Most Outstanding Club in Youth Service Outstanding Special Project for Anti TB Project Outstanding Special Project for Literacy Recognition for the Most Number of Registered Delegates to the Salt Lake City RI Convention Award for Highest Contribution, in Absolute Amount, to the Annual Program Fund of The Rotary Foundation Zone Literacy Award Certificate Presidential Citation Certificate The award for the Most Outstanding Club-Overall is the most coveted honor among Rotary Clubs. It recognizes a Club's outstanding efforts and achievements in all five avenues of service—Club Service, Community Service, Vocational Service, International Service and Youth Service. The spotlights were trained on Pres. Conrad Marty as he went up the stage twelve, yes 12, times to claim one award after another for the club. Indeed we have done quite well, which should explain why we swept the awards in all five avenues of service, and more. As Pres. Conrad will report to us in his valedictory speech today, the accomplishments of the various directorates and committees speak for themselves. In Community Service, we had the in-hospital surgical missions at the PGH, the TB Elimination project, the Supplemental Feeding Program, tree planting, Fire Safety Compliance Awards, Christmas Package Drive and our flagship Gawad Kalinga Project in Villa Paraiso. In Vocational Service, we have Books Across the Seas, notably our partnership project with USAID for the distribution of books to schools in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the Teacher Training Program at the Ateneo for public school teachers, the Heather Kinross Center , and our support for the Stepping Stone Learning Center and Philippine School for the Deaf. In International Service, we had strengthened our relations with our Sister and Brother Clubs through renewal of agreements, exchange of visits, and assistance in each other's projects; secured approval for two matching grants from The Rotary Foundation; hosted two Group Study Exchange teams; and enlisted 20 new Paul Harris Fellows. In Youth Service, we had an Interact Club that participated in district activities and a Rotaract Club that raised funds for their own projects; we had Bantay Bata, that stages a seminar on the prevention and early detection of child abuse and staged a day camp for the Bantay Bata wards; and conducted two career guidance seminars for the graduating class of two high schools. And in Club Service, we had a long line of interesting and prominent guest speakers, including President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo; held a number of fellowship activities, and recruited 15 new members who have become active in the Club.
