2 TB Elimination modules launched, 1 in Leyte, the other in Parañaque

Our TB Elimination Project is going places.

On 7 th August, the Anti-TB Committee, represented by Ann Angela Quila and Ann Chit Marty , went beyond the confines of Luzon to spread the benefits of the program to the Visayas with the launch of an anti-TB module in the municipality of Barugo in Leyte . Ann Chit, a natïve Leyteña, arranged the visit.

The Leyte module covers 47 children with primary complex.

The launch was attended by Barugo Mayor Alden Avestruz, Dr. Lourdes Calzita, municipal health officer, nurse Sonia Caneda , TB Project coordinator, and Lourdes Tiu Marasigan , president of Circulo Barugeño.

On the 13 th , another module was launched, this time benefiting 14 children, in Kaingin II, Brgy. Ibayo, Parañaque City . A joint project with RC Las Piñas Camino Real, the project was launched at the Allegro Pacific conference room, with Anns Angela Quila and Chit Marty , Rtn. Bruce Newfield , and RCLSCR Pres. Arturo de Guzman, PP Francis de Guzman and PP Federico Sapitan in attendance.

In both instances, Ann Angela, in her capacity as director of Kabisig ng Kalahi, a project partner, gave an overview of the project and the concerned health officer gave an orientation talk on TB. The project partners then signed a memorandum of agreement committing their organizations to the project, and the medicines and milk were turned over to the project partners –Circulo Barugeño in Leyte , RC Las Piñas Camino Real in Parañaque . The MOA stipulates that the children take , everyday for 6 months, the prescribed medicines provided free by RC Makati, To increase the chances for cure, the young patients are also given Lactum milk for two months, compliments of Mead Johnson.

The Anti-TB Committee is chaired by PP Puno Peña .
