Club launches Anti-TB offensive in seven project sites
Six months from now, the club's Anti TB Committee hopes to have saved some 285 children from the clutches of primary complex, or juvenile tuberculosis, with its recent launch in 7 project sites of an aggressive offensive against the highly-contagious and potentially debilitating disease. Its instrument: a potent 6-month treatment that combines medication and nutrition with basic personal and family hygiene. Championing the cause of the sick children are PP Puno Pena , chairman of the TB Elimination Project, and Ann Angela Quila , Director of Kabisig ng Kalahi (KnK), the club's project partner in the Supplemental Feeding Program chaired by PP Freddie Borromeo . The first salvo was unleashed on the 6 th of March at the Oridio de la Rosa Elementary School and the Porta Vaga Elementary School , both in Cavite , with Pres. Pepito Bengzon and Ann Angela doing the honors at the signing of a memorandum of agreement and turnover of medicines to the local health officials. The two sites have 33 and 28 young patients, respectively. On the same day, Ann Angela, together with Balik-Rotarian Mau Blardony , kicked off another module in Matang Tubig, Barangay Horseshoe in Quezon City , this time with 43 beneficiaries. The following day, 7 th March, Ann Angela, this time with Ann Lu Limjoco , another Kabisig stalwart and treasurer of the organization, launched the project at the Sampaloc Site II Elementary School in Paranaque City . Covered by the program at this site are 13 children who had tested positive for the disease. A week later, on the 13 th , Pres. Pepito joined PP Puno Pena and Ann Angela in Las Pinas to set off the project in the Five Wounds Parish Church and Last Supper Parish Church , with 79 and 73 beneficiaries, respectively. From there they moved on to Brgy. Putatan in Muntinlupa to launch another module, this time covering 16 children. In all the project sites, there was an introduction of RC Makati and its various projects; an orientation on TB, and an overview of the AntiTB project. During that time, the children are supplied with medicine that they are to take religiously and one nutritious meal and a glass of milk every day for 6 months. The launch also occasions the signing of a MOA among RCMakati, KnK, the local health center and the barangay or parish, and the turnover of medicines to the health officials who are tasked to dispense them, as prescribed, to the patients.
