Club links up, renew Sister Club ties with RC Bukit Bintang

For the third year in a row, RC Makati organized a group to represent it at the installation ceremony of our Sister Club, the Rotary Club of Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was also the third year in a row for Richard Soo to serve as president of Bukit Bintang. Led by Pres. Pepito Bengzon, the group was composed of DGN Sid Garcia, PE Larry Boyer & Ann Tere , and Dir. Dayal Nandwani .

The trip, which ran from 27 th November to 2 nd December, was vintage Rotary.

Arriving in the early evening of the 27 th the Makati group was met at the airport and whisked to a hotel for the Intercity Meet, where RI Pres. Wilf Wilkinson was the guest of honor. There were delegations from other Philippine clubs too, notably RC Dagupan, RC Vigan and RC Baguio North, all Brother Clubs of ours and Sister Clubs of Bukit Bintang as well.

The following day was free, allowing the visitors time to shop and walk up and down Bukit Bintang, the main avenue, where their hotel, Royale Bintang, is located. This gave Pres. Pepito, PE Larry and Dir. Dayal time to attend the meeting of RC Kuala Lumpur Diraja. The evening was D-Day, the

formal installation banquet at the imposing KL Tower, with a breathtaking view of KL by night, including the brightly-lit Malaysian landmark, the Petronas Towers. During the ceremony, Pres, Pepito gave Pres. Richard a tarpaulin banner featuring a collage of pictures of the Bukit Bintang delegation during their Manila visit in July and handed him a check for US$5,000 representing our donation for a joint RCM-RCBB community center for livelihood, health and values formation. The turnover was witnessed by RI Pres. Wilf.

On the 29 th they guests toured KL, then motored to Penang, where they had dinner at a resort hotel, signed renewal agreements and exchanged gifts. After a night in Penang, they took in a tour of the city in the morning, and even visited a Buddhist temple and a temple of, hold your breath, sssssssnakes! After lunch in Penang, they motored back to KL, stopping for dinner in Ipoh, and arriving late in the capital city.

Scheduled for the following day was a tour of KL and a trip to Genting Highlands, a chilly mountain resort about 2 hours from the city. Capping the visit was a farewell dinner hosted by PDG Jimmy Lim & Ann Brenda at the Holiday Villa.
